It was an eye-opening talk indeed. He shared his insights on how innovative technology that uses energy as efficiently as possible to minimize environmental impacts could benefit businesses. He cited several businesses that have benefitted from such innovation. Most importantly he shared with the participants on governmental efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, particularly issues relating to Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.

Many lecturers and postgraduate students from AAGBS, as well as those from other faculties who attended this interesting session, were able to gain much knowledge from Ambassador Horie within the two-hour session. Ambassador Horie has vast experience in foreign affairs in his capacities as councillor and ambassador of Japan to countries such as Denmark, Kenya, Qatar and Malaysia as well as an ambassador of Japan for global environmental affairs, to name a few. Besides currently an ambassador at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he is also a professor at several universities in Japan, a special advisor to the President of Meiji University and a councillor of International Union for Conservation of Nature. The participants were lucky to have such a prominent figure to share his expert knowledge at the session.

We hope Ambassador Horie will visit AAGBS again to share his other insights on the environment, business, policies, politics and the state of the world economy.
