AAGBS ‘Save Our Rainforest Race’ with PEKA

AAGBS ‘Save Our Rainforest Race’ with PEKA

On the 30th March 2019, Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam (PEKA) hosted its 7th Edition of Save Our Rainforest Race (SORR) 2019, at Taman Botanikal, Ayer Keroh, Malacca with the participation of over 1000 people. By bringing the theme, ‘See Nature, See Our Life’, the program required the participants to complete an adventure race styled covering a distance of almost 15km while spreading the awareness of the theme.

With pleasure, AGGBS under the CSR Club has sent 30 participants to grab this golden opportunity. Besides having great teamwork for completing the mission at 8 checkpoints along the track, the program really injected the best feeling to all the partakers by adoring the nature for 4 hours. We also get to know and learn scientific names of certain trees which most of it we never heard before. Physically it looks the same but only one who learns and expert about trees can differentiate it.

Moreover, while completing the race, all the participants need to plant trees as part of the initiative to preserve nature. Planting trees is the best part that shows the real values of loving and preserving nature. It can mean so much more than just spreading the awareness to the society as we know people tend to learn more through experience rather than through advice. Besides, it provides us the opportunity to ‘put something back’ into the environment which we have neglected before this and it teaches us that it is not too late to start digging and planting as the benefit will goes and flows continuously to our future generations. The earth needs us to put even a small effort to save the living.

It can be concluded that the main value highlighted under this programme is all about creating awareness towards nature, stop the destruction of natural resources and defend the rights of the environment in order to save the rainforest with all its biodiversity from extinction. Nevertheless, the program was not a common marathon held and it was a priceless involvement for breaking the daily stress and workload by admiring the nature at the most and helps to build and cherish love towards the nature in young generation’s soul and heart.
