3rd Digitalised International Invention, Innovation and Design Johor 2020 (DIID JOHOR 2020)

The DIID Johor 2020 was an event hosted by UiTM Kampus Johor which involved local and international participants on 27th August 2020. The event has been held for the past 10 years and this year, UiTM Johor had the privilege to host it again. The objectives of the event were to promote innovative and creative cultures among professionals, HLI students and school students from all walks of life and to generate designs and inventions that can be commercialized at national and international levels. The event had cash and prizes of over RM10,000.00 up for grabs for the grand finalists and overall winners.

Two groups of students from Arshad Ayub Graduate Business School (AAGBS) together with their advisor Dr Mohammad Firdaus Mohammad Hatta, participated in the event. The first group consisted of Nabiha Mohd Razis and Nur Firas Nazim while the second group consisted of Siti Khadijah Ab Jabbar and Nur Elisa Mohamad Zaki.

The objectives of the participation were to enhance the students’ knowledge and allow them to develop ideas in creating innovative products, to encourage the students to take part in bigger events for better experiences, and to enable them to fulfil the course requirement for Management of Product Development and Innovation in Islamic Finance (IFE768).

Previously, the DIID Johor 2020 event was conducted with physical booth exhibition. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic issue this year, the event was conducted through the online platform. All participants submitted their innovations online and the results were informed online. Aiming to participate in this event, the students conducted several rounds of discussions on the innovation of products and finally came out with great ideas.

The first group’s innovation product is 'Hi-Tech Lawn and Plants Protection Scheme (LPPS)'. This product was created to complement the Home Takaful since lawns and plants are currently not included in the coverage of a takaful plan. Generally, this product focuses on the homeowners and landscape companies in order to provide them a peace of mind in protecting their lawn and plants.

Both groups won the Bronze award. The AAGBS students were glad to have participated in the event. According to them, their participation had enabled them to boost their soft skills and step out of their comfort zone as well as apply the knowledge learned in IFE768. The event also improved their creativity and increased their confidence level thus enhancing their career prospects.
